Years of Service Award Wording
Years of service award wording needs three things: the number of years as the headline, the recipient's name, and one line that is true about that particular span. Let the number do the emotional work — it already has weight. The mistake is running the same template from 5 years to 40, which tells a forty-year employee that their milestone was processed rather than noticed.

This is workplace recognition wording, for the person buying a run of milestone awards rather than one gift.
Two pieces of Australian context worth having before you write. Long service leave in Australia is set by each state and territory's own laws, not by a single national entitlement, and Fair Work notes that in some states and territories long-serving casuals are eligible too (Fair Work Ombudsman). And on the tax side, a long service award benefit is generally exempt from fringe benefits tax under section 58Q of the Fringe Benefits Tax Assessment Act 1986 "up to $1,000 for 15 years' service and $100 for each additional year" (TaxEd, corroborated by CTBS). Confirm your own position with your accountant — that threshold shapes what a lot of employers buy at 15 years and beyond.
Why shouldn't the same wording cover 5 years and 40 years?
Because they are not the same event.
Five years says you chose to stay through the hard part. Forty years says your working life happened here. A template that fits both is a template that has stopped saying anything.
The practical difference shows up in three places. The length of the citation should grow with the milestone, because there is more to point at. The tone should move from encouraging to plainly factual, because at thirty years the number is more impressive than any adjective you could add. And the format should change at some point — a plate at 5 and 10, something substantial at 20 and beyond. A twenty-five-year employee handed the same object as a five-year employee notices.

Notice what happens at the top of that table. The longer the service, the fewer words it needs. At forty years, a name and a span is more moving than a sentence, because anyone reading it does the arithmetic themselves.

How do you write a service award citation that says something true?
Most milestone citations are a field being filled. "In recognition of your loyal and dedicated service" is not a sentence about a person — it is a sentence about the existence of a form.
A citation earns its space when it names something only this person did. Four ways in:
Point at a specific thing they built. He wrote the procedure everyone else copies.
Count something real. Six apprentices. All of them still in the trade.
Name the unglamorous part. This is the one people cry at. For fifteen years of the unglamorous half of the work, done properly.
Describe the gap they would leave. Nobody here remembers it without her.
If you have twelve milestones this year and no time to write twelve citations, write real citations for the 15-year milestones and above, and use a clean name-and-number format below that. A short honest format beats a long generic one, and everyone can tell the difference.
Ask the person's manager one question in writing: what would break if they left? The answer is almost always the citation.
How do you word a service award for someone whose role changed several times?
Do not try to list the roles. Four job titles on a plate reads like a résumé, and it makes twenty years look like restlessness rather than range.
Three approaches that work:

The third one is usually the truest. People who move around inside an organisation are almost always carrying the same thing with them, and naming that thing is more accurate than naming their titles.
What format suits a milestone award?
Wording length and object should be decided together, because a long citation will not fit a small plate.
